Listening to: The Calling’s Wherever You Will Go
Here’s an essay on the above statement. Download this sample essay and see what lessons you can learn from it.
Listening to: there’s a strange lady on radio dishing out advice to boys on how to remove blackheads…
And in other news, have you heard of the new tagline for the Speak Good English Movement: “‘Be Understood. Not only in Singapore, Malaysia and Batam”??
I must admit, I thought it’s quite funny. Finally a tagline with humour.
Then I asked myself: “Really, what’s this obsession with speaking good english”? And of course, the most logical answer would seem to be: If you want a shot at becoming global citizens, or citizens of the world, you’d jolly well be able to speak English that others can understand.
but really, what do you think of the new tagline?
Listening to: Kelly Clarkson’s Beautiful Disaster

Finally, wanted to share this article about web/phone bullies. Remember reading about this problem in Singapore schools, apparently, it’s affecting British schools as well..
Listening to: Goo Goo Dolls’ Better Days
Now here’s a much nicer song.
Anyway, someone once told me, the fastest way to get depressed on a good day, is to watch the news. And these words definitely rang true this evening. I thought I had a fairly okay day until I watched the news.
There running across the news were the words “tsunami…indonesia”..and my first thought was: “not again?” The Indonesians have been having a tough time, they haven’t quite recovered even from the last tsunami and tragedy has struck again. Are tsunamis going to follow every earthquake from now on?
count your blessings and watch out for the news for the next few days. There’ll probably be some articles about the environment we live in.
Listening to: Panic At The Disco’s I Write Sins Not Tragedies

Listening to: Linkin Park’s In The End
The first reading I have given (or will give) for this week is about mr br*wn’s column and the reply from the government. In addition to that reading, thought I’ll share what an organisation called “reporters without borders” said about the episode:
“This incident confirms in every way the fears we have about the government stranglehold on the media. The outspokenness of mr brown will be sadly missed in the Singaporean press”.
Such a strong word: “stranglehold”. Remember that as you’re reading any piece of work, look for words with intensity. These words will indicate to you what tone is used by the author and thus, what attitude this organisation holds towards our govt and its relationship with our local media.
In addition to that reading, there’s one more about the rise of citizen journalists. Please read that one. Extremely interesting – and related to that “appeal and drawbacks of blogs” qn. If you want to know of any country which is not so inclined to bloggers criticising them etc, you can check out www.rsf.org for examples yah?
oh yes, i don’t have a tagboard here, so can’t really tell if I even have visitors. drop me a comment so at least I know I do have an audience please?
Listening to: Sandi Thorn’s I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker
Check out the lyrics to this song. You could click on this url to view the music video. Does music also reflect social trends? Was life really much simpler back then? In that case, were people happier back then?
Listening to: Death Cab for Cutie’s I Will Follow You Until The Dark
Blogs are extremely interesting things. To me, they are one of the most influential inventions of the 21st century. Or were blogs invented earlier?
Whatever it is, I’ve used blogs as a useful tool in my GP teaching. With positive feedback from my ex-students, I’ve finally got down to work to set up this new home for you guys.
Meeting for two-and-a-half hours each week is never enough. Especially for a subject like GP where we can’t seem to learn enough.
